I am with the last commenter 100%. I adore the guy in the fully-handmade outfit, crocheting on the train. I think people with passion are fascinating. One can't buy passion, I always say. This guy is being his true self and not worried what people on the train, or the Web, think. I would love chatting with him, I bet he has a cool idea for something new he hasn't made yet. That knitting dude on the train is so wonderful and wacky. I would love to sit down and chat with him for a bit. Well, when done as you say, I do see your point there. My knitting inexperience does show in that regard, so I bow to your word. (Not being sarcastic!)

However (and I only remembered this just now, oy), while it’s been a long time since I’ve used such a thing, I did use one of those little circular knitting thingies (looks like a hollow cylinder with a number of pegs extending from one end, don’t remember the exact name) to achieve knitted ‘tubes’ in less than an hour, for a ‘Fibers’ class I took before. Not sure how this seller made hers, though; it’s been so long that I don’t remember the difference in how the stitches would look when made one way versus the other, perhaps you would. (Again, no sarcasm or snark, I’m genuinely curious because it hadn’t occurred to me before to wonder what the difference in appearance between the two might be.)

Have you ever actually knit 6 feet of i-cord? I’d rather stab my eyes out with the double pointed needles. And it actually takes about an hour for 2 feet of it (at my rate, anyway), and minimum wage is about $7/hour, so that’s $21 for time invested, not counting extra time for the plugs. So my vote is that it’s worth it for the time involved, but you’re never going to convince most people of that.

I think this is pretty adorable, myself– I’d wear something like it. But it sure as hell isn’t worth $44. I crochet rather than knit, but as someone who HAS knitted a little I can honestly say the yarn and labor really isn’t worth that much. They’d do better to cut the price in half, which would still more than cover the cost of yarn (unless they decided to use a super-pricy sort, which is wasted on something like this) and work. They’d actually stand a chance of selling it and more of ‘em.

As for six feet, that’s not that bad, especially for a skinny scarf. Not even for someone 5’2″ like me.

Six feet is actually not that long for a scarf–after all, it won’t even reach your knees. (My winter scarves are always much longer so I can wrap it around my neck twice and still have ends hanging below my waist.) A skinny belt that you wrap twice and then have dangling ends is not too long at six feet either.

That said, making it in the shape of an extension cord is just goofy….expecting $44 out of it is absolutely nuts.
