It's actually a piece of art, an outdoor installation by artist Carol Hummel. She talks about it here on her project page. It was up from 2005 through last summer. I think it's pretty and cheerful. And really, what the hell else are you going to do with those 2500 skeins of Red Heart Super Saver from your grandma's basement?

I have to admire the sheer amount of time and effort it takes to crochet and adorn an entire tree in a cozy. That’s dedication! -But did you ever notice that the people that seem to want to cover things in cozies look like they live in a relatively warm climate? Dr. Seuss is turning over in his grave and muttering “they were children’s books and you’re how old now?”
